Ingredients

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon or Ceylon cinnamon for a softer flavor
  • 1 tsp ground ginger preferably fresh grated for vibrant aroma
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves a tiny pinch for depth
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg freshly grated if possible
  • 2 cups milk dairy or plant-based alternatives
  • 1 shot espresso or strong coffee brewed fresh
  • to taste sweetener honey, maple syrup, or sugar
  • whipped cream for topping optional
  • extra cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish optional

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Measuring jug
  • Espresso machine or coffee maker
  • Whisk or spoon

Method

  1. Measure out the spices: cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg, then mix them in a small bowl to create your spice blend.
  2. Pour the milk into a saucepan, then add the prepared spice mix directly into the milk.
  3. Warm the milk gently over low heat, stirring occasionally, until you see tiny bubbles around the edges and the milk steams—about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Once hot, strain the milk through a fine-mesh strainer into a measuring jug to remove the spice solids, leaving a fragrant, smooth milk.
  5. While the milk infuses, brew a shot of espresso or prepare a strong cup of coffee.
  6. Add your desired amount of sweetener to the hot coffee, stirring until dissolved.
  7. Pour the warm, spiced milk over the brewed coffee, gently stirring to combine and create a silky, unified beverage.
  8. Top your latte with whipped cream and a light sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg for an extra festive touch.
  9. Serve immediately in a warm mug, inhaling the inviting aroma before taking your first comforting sip.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the spice quantities to suit your taste. Using fresh grated ginger enhances the vibrant, zesty flavor, but ground ginger works well too. For a dairy-free version, swap in almond, oat, or coconut milk, and enjoy the cozy warmth of this seasonal treat.
